SALT LAKE CITY, Oct. 1, 2014 — In follow up to its summer acquisition of ConnectEDU’s college and career planning assets, Graduation Alliance has enacted all data privacy measures as required by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Most recently these measures included the notification of all Connect! users, past and present, whose post-secondary planning platform accounts had been transferred to Graduation Alliance.

On Tuesday, Sept. 30, students, parents, and educators who have established accounts in the platform since 2002 were informed of their rights to request all personally identifiable data be removed and promptly destroyed. Graduation Alliance president and co-founder Gregg Rosann affirmed this isn’t the only action his company is taking to ensure compliance and protections. The firm’s privacy policy protects student data in accordance with all Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Protection of Pupil Rights Amendment (PPRA), and Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) guidelines.

“We only use a student’s information to proactively present information that will inform their decision-making around college and career,” Rosann said. “So even if a student doesn’t tell us to purge their information, that’s where it ends. We won’t sell it. We won’t trade it. We won’t share it. That’s not what we’re here for.”
